Dear Loyal Supporters,
On behalf of the Aschiana Foundation, I hope that you’re staying safe and healthy. As we’re continuously monitoring the developing situation of COVID-19 here in the U.S. and in Afghanistan, we would like to provide you with a few updates about the students at Aschiana.
Due to lack of medical testing and data, it’s difficult to evaluate the situation in Afghanistan, and currently it’s not clear if any students at Aschiana or their families are affected by COVID-19.
In addition to the recent COVID-19 crisis, Afghans have had a turbulent political and economic year. This has led to skyrocketing prices, making it difficult for the impoverished population to buy basic necessities.
Rather than staying at home, as most privileged children have, Afghan children continue to work on the streets. In some cases, these children have had to work double their original shifts, so they can afford the inflated food prices. To assure that the 220 Aschiana children stay home, hence prevent the spread of COVID-19, we have distributed basic supplies, such as, flour, rice, and soap.
The cost for each family = $26.50
(Flour, rice, and hand soap)
The cost for each family = $50.00
(Flour, oil, rice, potato, sugar, salt, tea, and hand soap)
We’re grateful to the Aschiana staff, who, in spite of the dangerous circumstances have continued their hard work and dedication to the Aschiana children.
As we navigate through these uncharted waters, we hope that you and your loved ones will continue to be healthy and safe.
As we move forward, we will try to update you and look forward to your continuous support.
With gratitude and care,
Sanya Younossi
President, The Aschiana Foundation
